Description

Gaia may be an older model (based on BCo) but, as she says, she belongs to herself. Her owner made over her registration and ownership details to her, just before he died, so she is now the legal owner of herself. Which has caused headaches in Parliament as they try to decide whether or not a robot is legally entitled to own anything at all, whether, in fact, a robot may be treated as a person and given the same rights as humans ... Not that Gaia cares; she is now a free robot, with a small inheritance to spend as she will and a comfortable cottage in the Lake District to live in. And note the presence of Space Commander Scott, who seems to be taking an interest in the new Aikobot model 2. This particular version of Abot2, with the face of Godin's "Willow", is called Sally. Why? Well, "willow" is "salix" in Latin, and this gives "Saille" for "willow" in Gaelic (so this all-knowing WWW tells me), so she is now "Sally". Looks like she'll soon have an owner and a job. Not quite sure just what Chomper and Mogbot are singing, but I suspect it's "La Donna e mobile" ... -------------------------- Thank you to all those who chose yesterday's picture, a tribute to Elizabeth Sladen, as a favourite.

Yes, I do imagine in the future there will be this debate as AI gets more and more sophisticated.. where does life begin? Especially when there is also the possibility of growing tissues and such, and the bio-computers that are being experimented with. It causes such imagination as to where it will all lead. Great piece, thought provoking for me!

Premiss reminds me of The Bi-Centenial Man. But then, we did discuss such things. Great work! Though I'm sure the humans will make a mess of it in the end...
