Description
Yesterday Toniann & I took Meadow & Summer to the Game Fair. We went early so that if it got too hot for the girls we could come home. It was a lovely day, just right. We had a good look round, saw the birds of prey, thats the Snowy Owl & Eagle Owl on the left. Haven't a clue what the chickens were, it didn't say. I didn't like the fact that they had little chicks on sale for £1.50, whose to say who is buying them :o( The pigs didn't have a name either. I thought it quite bad taste :0) that next to these pigs they were cooking sausages from their brothers & sisters :o) Of course I had to add a pic of Meadow & Summer, they were so good. The majority of the dogs were Border Terriers, Lurchers, Springers, Labradors, other Spaniels & of course cross breeds. Saw quite a few lurchers with scars on their faces, from the look of some of the people who were there you could see they were lampers or coursers. I asked one man where he had got his little crossbreeds tail docked, he said the vets, (yer right, its banned over here, unless your dog is a registered working dog) he didn't know it was banned :0) There were a lot of ferrets, boy do they smell but oh so cute, they looked so chilled out. A couple of Bulldogs huffing & puffing, looked as if they would have been better left at home. I noticed no one seemed to carry water with them for their dogs, while walking round (I look for these things). Toniann & I both had bags with water & treats for the girls.
Before the gundog display the commentator announced he had some pups & if anyone was interested go & see him. Is it me or does NO-ONE think of these poor animals. You can imagine the conversation:-
"I'd like a pup"
"Yer ok, which one"
"That one, haven't had a dog before"
"You won't have any food in then"
"No, & shops are closed"
"Not to worry been fed today, will be ok till tomorrow, bye"
Now he could have been a very caring man but do caring people sell pups like that & if they snug at home why mention them?
Cynicle, OH I SURE AM :o)
Game fairs, pet shops puppy farms are NOT a place to sell puppies. Off soapbox, I think I am a nightmare where animals are concerned :o)
Thanks for all the lovely comments & favs, so, so appreciated. xxx

It saddens me that practices like this are still allowed in this country. Puppy farms especially, should be burned to the ground (after the puppies have all been rescued and given GOOD homes of course!! If they have another event like this next year, maybe you could jostle a few RSPCA folk into having a snoop around.

WHAT! you should have reported them, Barbara! Great pics though.

Terrible behaviour from these people. I would have thought anyone selling anything in such an organised environment would need to keep to the rules. Great photos though Barbara, never seen pigs with spots on before!

Wonderful collage Barbara. I love the image of the snowy owl. That is a breed we share with you. The pigs are called Gloucestershire Old Spots Pigs, here is a link if you want to read on them http://www.articleroad.com/pets-and-animals/livestock-and-farm-animals/pigs-and-hogs/hog-and-pig-breed-list/gloucestershireoldspotspig-53.cfm?Find=Free%20information%20about%20Gloucestershire%20Old%20Spots%20Pig about half way down the page is a picture of the cutest little pigglet you have ever seen. :) I love that you are so protective of animals not just your beautiful dogs. I wish more people were like you.

Wish more people would complain Barbara, there are a lot of animals who sadly have very bad and often very short lives. The collage is good and the girls look like thay are enjoying thier day out, hugs and love xxxxxx

Buying chicks, pups etc at the fair are not the best idea. Super collage! Held and Eagle Owl at the children's zoo a few years ago. I thought it was very heavy for an owl. Always happy to see Meadow and Jasmine. Dana

Fine collage of photos, Barbara! I have it difficult as you seeing animals as pure sales objects! Living creatures are so alike us in many ways! I never thought of my cats as deserving a fine life as I do for my self! :o)

It's the same here Barb .. and it disgusts me to the point of being ill. If a person cannot treat an animal with some care and dignity, how does that person treat other people??? Maybe we are just too tender hearted .. but I'd rather be tender hearted then a cold idiot like some are. It's a wonderful collage .. We get the occaisional Snowy Owl, I don't think we get Eagle Owls, the chickens are wonderful, and I adore those pigs!! Meadow and Summer are gorgeous!
