For Brigitte you have always shown an appreciation for these old barns just like I do, so this one is straight from the camera, no retouching, I even left the power lines in. I hope you like it. I saw this in Virginia when I was driving to Mabry Mill on Blue Ridge Parkway, which is a 469 mile scenic road that starts in the Smoky Mountain National Park and weaves through the state of North Carolina and on to the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. I have never driven the entire highway, but my goal is to do that soon, what I did see of it was very stunning.

Thank you all for your comments on the portrait of my daughter, she had a great time in New York, her favorite part was seeing the Broadway play the Wicked. And she described being on the stage at Carnegie Hall like this she said they were all lead to a huge back rehearsal hall behind the stage, they had not seen the inside of the building completely yet, and they were given instructions, told some of the history of the building and others who had played on the stage, such as the Beatles, and then they had a half hour to warm up and practice, and then a director came in and said OK Maryville High School are you ready to enter the stage, and she said it was so intense. And they were lead through a hallway to the stage, and she said as she entered the stage she started to cry because it was all so overwhelming and as they started to play their first song, she noticed that her orchestra teacher and director was also crying she said it was amazing. And as a mom, even though I couldn't be there that night as I realized wow she's about to go on stage I was crying too. But then I also cried when she sent me her first photo of the Statue of Liberty and I thought wow she is so lucky to have this opportunity. With that said I would encourage you all to support the arts in your schools and communities with out that type of support these children would not have had this trip and experience of a lifetime they will never forget.

Nicely composed.

Excellent shot Something that is seen less and less in the U.S. the only thing that might make it more American would be to have an old ad painted on its side. Beautiful.

Shining shot.

what a beautiful capture! Aren't barns just the most amazing things? Love the rusted roof, and much as I hate having those electric wires get in every picture, I'm glad you left them in this one.

I wanted to do a color image, after 2 b&w's! (And btw: I"m having a problem with my sitemail, so I'll get to your mail soon. It happened twice this week that I downloaded a mail & it got corrupted, so I'm waiting till I correct my account. It'll be a few days. Just so you know.) The land & sky in this shot is a wonderful embrace of the barn. You included that golden grass (hay?) in front, which was perfect; and it's the best combination with the beautiful red roof. I mean, red isn't amber---like that grass---but the grass has a reddish tint to it, so it brings out the tomato reds of the roof. Fine intuitive choice. Also the barn's angle (pov) shows-off the barn, and the fence is beautiful & spare. As for the rest, it's just right, the broad green grass, the amber grasses in back, and a big open blue sky. Really nice balances. This feels midwestern, even though I think where you are is "the east". Still, this feels midwestern to me, having lived in the midwest a long time. You have clarity in your colors, lots of detail, and yet it's a soft picture too. And it's spacious and I think beautiful. And btw, I grew up in the arts (re your daughter in NYC), and being on stage is like nothing else in the world, I totally agree. I know just what she felt. When you exit the cavernous backstage & enter the proscenium, it takes your breath away. I wish her lots more such experiences. They're the best. I'm all in favor of the arts in school. It's essential and, unfortunately, not given enough attention in our culture...
