Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

Excellent detail in this capture and I'm glad they had removed the UFO....! I like your imagination.

I agree that this has a nicely spooky air to it: I think it's the desolation (leafless tree branches) and no humans in sight anywhere. I think the bare trees and the shadows are what make this for me. There's so much going on, so many shapes to explore and just think, each one of those things could be a story just waiting to be told. For me, that's one of the best parts; if a picture evokes something then it's done what the photographer wanted, and probably a little bit more too! This rocks. Well, actually it's rather steady, but hey, you know what I mean. This is making a quick trip into my Favorite's file.

Well, they fenced it off for SOME reason! Who knows what was really in there ... I'm sure they were Up To No Good! Aside from all that nonsense, I like the contrast and the faintly blue tones to this image.

A simple beauty and I see no spooks, ufo's or other phenomenon. But I'll bet there's a sow bug or two.

When an area is fenced off in our parks it is to keep people out of a place which is special to folk further down the food chain. (Which I suppose makes these sanctuaries ideal landing point for alien visitors.) The distant structure could well be a double gallows...

With so few points of reference to guide the viewer (not even colour), this picture is ageless. It could easily have been taken in the 1940s, although I'm certain that a different photographer would have been needed in those days! This is bleak, a little washed out. There's inference of quite strong sunlight, which seems at odds with the decay of the fallen leaves. There's a definite romantic vibe to this image in my opinion, and it's another one of your retro posts that I appreciate very much!

WONDERFUL B/W!

Very cool photo, and what's even more cool for me is that I've actually been there, myself. Not quite this same view, and such, but still enough that I recognized it. Weird feelings when it triggered memories of that visit to a friend... She'd moved to Chicago (is still there, too) and I kinda had a crush on her even though I knew she didn't feel the same way about me. Funny how all of those things come back so sharp and clear just from looking at one photograph!
