Description

In the early years of settlement, most Martian cities were underground cities. Some structures remained on the surface, but 95 percent of all Martian urban sites were buried. Most windows are 3D High-definition television screens. Life in those early times was spartan. Privacy was prized but hard to come by. Single folks lived a communal life not all that different from life aboard a rocket. They slept in large, barracks style rooms accommodating up to twelve people, had a commons room, and public restrooms. Married couples without children had a small cubicle with a shower. Couples with children had tiny apartments with two bedrooms. Martian cities were not designed for romance. Nevertheless, men and women met, fell in love, had sex, had children. At the beginning of the first decade of Martian settlement, it was solely an adult population. By its end, eight percent of all Martians were children under the age of eighteen. Ten years later, twenty percent of all Martians were minors. A few of the parents were some of those earliest children now grown to maturity. The early teenage years are always difficult. It is a time when many youth crave privacy. In Martian settlements it was hard to achieve. Still, kids managed as they always do. Most found theirs within the miles of corridors. Because the population remained low, most were not crowded avenues. They also twisted and turned in a veritable maze of tunnels. The teens got very adept at selecting the most isolated and infrequent sections. Sometimes, they could go several hours before any adult came past. Some were used to avoid others--including other teens. Some were used to get together for social purposes. A few slipped away with that special someone to spend some exclusive time together. Here we have a young couple, who are shyly and self-consciously attracted to each other. They have discovered love Martian style. _____________________________ Held on to this one for a year because I couldn't get the Martian background to look right. Don't like the shadow on the girl's face but through a series of mishaps, I lost the boy figure and the rendering time was very high. So finally decided to post as is. Thanks for looking. Comments appreciated. Jeremy CREDITS: Poser 6.0, Vue Studio Pro 7.0. Female Figure: DAZ's Victoria 4.2++ with Jamminwolfe's "Robyn Kaiser" teenager morphs and skinmat for same. Clothing: KooknFat's "J-Suit" (Renderosity); sickleyield's "Endymion" boots. Hair: Neftis's "Noemie Hair" and SWAM and goldtassel's "Duke Hair (both at DAZ). Excellent scene and great narrative. some very serious thought was given to this as I agree with your assessment of the needs v desires as well as the population increases.

Nicely done and I love your exploration of emerging Martian culture; I'm always fascinated by such things, especially among "frontier" people who exist in an environment far, far removed from the native environmental conditions of Earth; I suspect that the absence of privacy would lead to all sorts of interesting social developments and possibly even a different sort of value system that might eventually take advantage of the rarity of such things as privacy and large/open living spaces for small groups of people. And then to top off the wonderful journey you've set my mind to exploring, you've produced a great image, well worth close scrutiny (shadows not withstanding.) I love the bland, utilitarian look of things and the soft and romantic human focus. Great work.

I'm glad you've touched on this, because everyone who's tried to do any planning on how a colony would have to be built either in space on on the Moon, or Mars all agrees that space itself will be an extremely precious commodity. I can only imagine how difficult that would be for teens, especially teens in love. Nice work!

I've always enjoyed reading the martian settlement type sci-fi books, namely the Mars themed ones. I still think the render came out really well. It must've been the multiple lights that make it take forever to render.
