Description

This is for Geoff. This is one of the "Gold Coast" mansions on the north shore of Long Island where all the rich lived in the beginning of the previous century. Same building where I shot the portrait from the other day. Lots of wonderful woodwork. You can't get in there very often. It's not open to the public on a regular basis. We got permission to do a photo shoot there.

Great photo love the wood and lighting! I see from your Bio that this is more than likely Hempstead in New London, Connecticut I lived near a small village called Hempstead where they grew the Hemp to make the ropes for the ships at Chatham Navel dock yard

Actually, this is on Long Island near New York City. We have a large town, or perhaps it's a small city, called Hempstead. It probably was an English name originally. No growing of hemp that I know of.

What a marvelous shot. I love the simplicity of the lines, the woodwork, the light, the wood tones, and all of the other juicy good bits in this. The light is what grabs me the most and really makes me sit up and take notice (quite a feat as I haven't had my morning coffee [or Dr. Pepper]) at the time of this comment. And so having said that, I'll add that this is quite a photographic marvel. Outstanding work.

Oh boy. My shutter finger and I are just itching to get in there and take pictures! LOL! Wow. What a wealth of images that place must be! My husband (bmac62) grew up on Long Island and researched the Mackay mansion (Roslyn), which was another of these Gold Coast places, although it was long gone by the time he lived there. What a fascinating history these old mansions have!

An exquisite POV and a most interesting scene. The architecture is certainly so beautiful, and the lighting in your image truly brings out a marvellous beauty! The mood and atmosphere here is so very classy and dramatic!
