Anywhere you go, this is an iris. Whether it's called a spanish iris or an african iris or any other sort, it's still an iris. You can tell an iris because all its parts come in groups of three. There are loads of different kinds of iris, but they ALL have that three-grouping thing in common. This might look like the white part is a group of six, but it isn't ... it's two groups of three: one group with long, strong gold markings and feathery tips; one group with shorter, more brown markings and pointy tips. Orcids come in an astonishing array of shapes and colors, but this three-group thing is not one of them. I hope this helps in your future floral identification endeavors. All that plant i.d. aside, this is a gorgeous photograph! Superb color and detail, and the depth of field is outstanding. Stunning image!

auntietk: okay, I'll just omit the orchid part and call it an iris. I'm fortunate to even know this much about flora.
