Description

Dear Andrea, The Oregon Coast is a waste of time for photographers. This place is so beautiful, so vast, so rugged, so pristine, that no single photograph can show it. I've spent days trying to capture the coastline, and what I've come up with is only a small part of what I see. There are more times than not when I just sit and look, camera at rest, simply enjoying the surf, the sounds, the marine air, the chill wind. I can't tell you how many times I've thought of you over the past few days, how many times Bill and I have looked at each other and said, "I wish Andrea were here to see this." The Oregon Coast is your kind of place, my friend. Temperate climate, very few residents, no buildings to speak of, and miles and miles of beaches all allowing dogs. There are wetlands and pastureland, forests and cliffs, wildlife and seabirds and lichens and wildflowers, bugs and bees and flies and mosquitoes, and here and there are random artist's colonies hoping to sell something to the summer crowds. Those "summer crowds" are nothing compared to what you get in your tourist town. If you saw a crowd here you would laugh. 40 or 50 people on a three-mile stretch of beach in these parts would cause me to leave because it was absolutely packed! If they ever throw you out of England, my friend, I have just the place for you ... .................... We'll be staying in state parks for the next couple of days, and most likely won't have any internet connection at all. Once we're back in a private park that provides WiFi, we'll be posting again. (Didn't want you to think we'd fallen off a cliff or something.)

It is nice to know others enjoy the Oregon beach as much as I do. This is a wonderful photo of it. I hope you get to see some whales, too. We have a few pods that stay year around.

I'm sure Andrea would be able to find some padlocks there to photograph, and if you are haveing trouble getting some decent shots send me a air ticket and I will pop over and show you how,I can see at least a thousand shots in that one beach. Great shot.

I see Montana isn't the only place with wide open space and big skies. Fantastic image!

Gosh, Tara, Thankyou for your lovely 'Wish you were here' postcard! What a place this is, I could even let Ralphie off there, (although he'd still probably get lost or kill something.) You are very kind to think of me. I have put the pic of the three of you at Marilyns into my 'friends' folder and maybe one dsy we will actually meet. I hope you have something a little even more special planned for your birthday!

Great shot and description. The northern California and Oregon coastline are stunning beyond description. I think I could spend the rest of my life just exploring the beaches. Well done.

Damn...... You've got me ready to pack my bags, Tara! From what I see here, in your lovely photo, and what you've written, I think I'd go completely apes**t with my camera! I know the feeling well - trying to convey what you are seeing, and feeling when a vista such as this is before you. The closest I've ever been able to come is that pano I did in Arkansas last fall...and it still falls miserably short.

That's the way we like it - to be left alone, only with camera & thoughts ... 'Happy Birthday' TARA and many happy returns, Cheers BB
