I'm glad you stopped too. Great clarity and contrast in this shot of the weird cactus plant with the nice flowers, Jock.

Great Shot. Those are Cholla cactus. The segments dry up and fall on the ground where they wait for unsuspecting tenderfeet to come passing by. Then they jump on you and attach themselves. They are quite painful. The Apache Indians used to torture people by dragging them through the Colla forests that grow here in Arizona. I will try to hike into the Superstition Mountains to get shots to show you. (Shots of the Cholla forest, not shots of the Apache Indians. The Indians are on reservations, now and trap unsuspecting travelers in their Casinos.) When traveling in Cholla country, it is good to have a large comb to remove them. That way you do not have to touch them.

Beautiful cactus all decked out in fancy threads! I like the strong contrast of the lit and shadowed branches. Excellent capture! I borrowed some great lenses from my sister's boyfriend when I went to Ireland. I wasn't used to them and had the speed a little low for some shots. It's frustrating not to notice this because you are outside and can't see the image well. I started shooting at several different speeds just in case. Hallelujah for digital, where you can take twenty shots to get one good one. (And be thumped on the head by the person you are with for taking too long.)
