Description

Today we went to the Heceta Head Lighthouse. It's a beautiful place, built in 1893, and the tower houses a gorgeous first-order Fresnel lens. They're beginning restoration this summer, so what you see here is as bad as it gets for this lighthouse. Maybe I'll get to go back in a couple years and take an "after" picture! :) Any excuse ... I like the buildings, but seriously ... it's those Fresnel lenses that keep me coming back! All that light and glass!! Spectacular.

I cannot wait to see what it will look like. I've got many pictures of this lighthouse from various and sundry trips to Lincoln City. It is so beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Too bad the state of Oregon can't photoshop the lighthouse's troubles away. Today I read where a grant of 1.3 million dollars has been approved for a top to bottom restoration. Great idea getting a before picture:)

I've read stories of how lighthouse keepers rescued people from ships that ran up on the rocks. Now that most lighthouses are automated the sailors are on there own. Nice capture. I hope you get the chance to photograph the finished product.

We talked about my old Fresnel at the fairgrounds; they are amazing pieces of art. I never knew much about them till you told me. Hope you get the after shot of this one as well!!

A super photo, Tara! I agree with Mike - a series on the restoration would be awesome!
