Description

On March 28th at 10:00 am construction began on my street. They began by cutting the asphalt for curb excavation. I went out on my porch to take the top photo of the big saw they use for that and then went about my business here at the house. At approximately 11:50 maintenance came in to tell me that they had our street blocked off because they had cut a gas main. If you look close you can see the gas escaping and blowing up the dust in the second picture. They had blocked 2 other streets that were next to us and the fire department, police dept, National Grid (gas and electric) and a couple aid cars were standing by. It took about 3 hours to get the gas shut off so they could repair or replace the pipe, so nothing more was done on construction that day aside from cutting a huge square of asphalt out and digging down to the pipes. It was 4:00pm before they opened the street again and then only because there was a fire at the other end of my street. It was more than a week before they got the two holes filled back in and construction could resume. Other than it being a royal pain from noise and walking in the streets to get anywhere, we were accident free... That is...until on May 2nd when the trucking company caused the next one. They were hauling in dirt and gravel and when the guy raised the bed of the truck, he cut through the power lines, Time Warner cable lines and police camera lines. It tripped the substation and when the backup power came on it had caused such a heavy surge that my pc, monitor, modem, telephone and telephone lines were damaged. Just so you know, I have all of my electronics etc. on surge protectors but it went right thru them to destroy my stuff! The man from the power company said it was a miracle that we didn't have a fire. Thank Heaven for that! I was able to get online the day before Mothers Day to order my new modem and check my email thanks to a friend. I'm sorry I was unable to write anyone and tell them what happened, only sent one forward to one friend and then I was offline until late yesterday. The GOOD news! The trucking company had to replace my computer and stuff and I didn't get it till late on Friday. Have been trying ever since to get the wireless modem to work but it keeps shutting off on me so I have a few minutes to put this up and then I will be on the cell phone with Verizon again...makes about 5 times now and I used their In Home Agent to repair at least a dozen times but it still kicks me off. A special thanks out to the man at Villager Construction that helped me get to all the right people so I could get my pc replaced and thanks to the trucking company for buying it and delivering it to me personally. What a week it has been...More good news, my daughter gets home !!!finally!!! at midnight tonight. Now I can relax and get back to the business of living! Happy Birthday to all my friends that I missed during this time and hope you are feeling better to all who weren't, my love and deepest sympathies to those who lost loved ones also. Thanks for looking and reading. It will be awhile before I get back, have to learn the new pc, transfer files, bookmarks email addys and more...whew!

What a story! But the silver lining to that gas cloud is your new PC! And you couldn'y have a better BD present than to know your daughter is safe at last.

Hi Lynn, it is good to hear from you and I'm so sorry to hear all that you have went through recently. Believe it or not we had something almost like that happen a few years back in front of our company when the city hit a hight pressure gas main and had no idea how to cap it off. Glad no one was hurt during this event and that no fire broke out either. So glad they replaced your computer, as that was the least they could do if you ask me. Call me when you have time to talk so we can catch up. Hugs

An unfortunate sequence of events that would ruin anyone's day, nay, weeks, as told in this splendid collage and narration. Glad you're okay and was compensated for in the emotional and material trauma you experienced, Lynn.
