Description
South of the Garda Lake and up to the flowing into the big Po river: this is the territory of the Parco del Mincio that for 18 years protects the coastal areas of the river. The first tract of the Mincio river flows through the gentle slopes of the morenic hills of the Garda Lake and it crosses the medieval villages that are dominated by little castles. Downhill the Mincio river creates the widest humid area of the Mincio Valleys, that is natural reserve hosting many specimen of birdlife and water or marsh flora. Herons, egrets, duck-hawks, pendulums fly or nest through the reed thicket, the typical environment of the Valleys, in which lotus, nymphaea, hibiscus, dwarfs, sedge, water chestnuts bloom. The blowing is at its best during the summer and it is possible to admire it with excursions by boat leaving from Mantua, Rivalta sul Mincio and Grazie. Around Mantua, the City of the Gonzaga Family, the Mincio River widens out forming three lakes, then the river flows between high banks until when it mixes its water with that of the Po River. In this last tract it is possible to make the navigation by some motorboats of some private companies..
