Description

A blend of old and new, Port Melbourne is a busy seaside area in Melbourne Australia. What was once an old area for commercial shipping has been transformed into striking residential developments alongside restored public buildings and workers' cottages. Many of the old warehouses of 150 years ago are now very trendy (and expensive) apartments. Year-round, walkers, runners and cyclists pound the palm-lined path that hugs the foreshore, and the old sailing hulks have been replaced by sailboarders and kite surfers! It is still a major destination and departure point for many of the world's ocean liners and the Tasmanian ferry service. Best viewed zoomed. This area is littered with great pubs, and the building on the extreme right is the Port Melbourne Yacht Club.
