Description

a pallas cat in the red river zoo, fargo. nice kitty. I'd take him home and hug him..but too furry for me . I like my short haired cats. for those of you who don't know here is the info from wikipedia Pallas's Cat (Otocolobus manul or Felis manul), also called Manul, is a small wild cat named after German naturalist Peter Simon Pallas, who first described the species in 1776. In 2002, the IUCN classified Pallas's cat as near threatened because of the broad but patchy distribution in the grasslands and montane steppe of Central Asia. The species is negatively affected by habitat degradation, prey base decline, and hunting. Pallas's Cat is the oldest living species of a clade of felids that includes the modern genus Felis. This feline, along with the extinct Martelli's Cat, was probably one of the first two modern cats to evolve from Pseudaelurus approximately 12 million years ago. Retaining the monotypic genus Otocolobus, Pallas's cat has been proposed to be placed with the genera Felis and Prionailurus in the tribe Felini.
