Description

Arrived safe and sound in New Hampshire. I would like to take a minute to answer some questions. On top, this is what our Florida hurricane shutters look like, installed but open. They are called accordion shutters because they fold up and do not block our view or full sunshine coming in. This is our kitchen window and that is my wife Jo at the kitchen sink. I do not think that she saw me take this shot. On the bottom, once closed, there are four large pins that lock into holes in the frames, two up and two down. There is also a lock in the center that can only be opened from the inside. The bottoms are open to allow for water drainage. The surprise, when we return, is what has moved into that space. Tree frogs and geckos enjoy the protection of living inside. They are cute and tend to leave when we turn on the inside lights. It is the wasps and hornets that refuse to leave. We have to spray them with a can of compressed air and open the shutters before they return. I hope that this explains it all. We have not had a hurricane for almost four years. Thanks for stopping by my gallery, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

I hope that these shutters wont be needed this year either. It's good that you have made it safely to New Hampshire and I hope you are getting resettled again.

That is SO interesting! The son of a friend of mine has made his living for many years from marketing these in Bermuda. Now I know what she's on about!

Interesting pictures. We had very strong winds (150-180km/h) in the paris area only in 1999.
