Description

Pontos (Ancient Greek word for "sea") is a historical Greek designation for a region on the southern coast of the Black Sea, located in modern-day northeastern Turkey. At May 19th 1919, Turkish leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk landed in the port of Samsun to start the second and most brutal phase of the Greek Pontian Genocide, under the guidance of German and Soviet advisers. Until the Asia Minor Catastrophe in 1922, the Pontic Greeks who lost their lives exceeded 200,000, while some historians put the figure at the 350,000. After the Armenian genocide at the same era, that was the second one from Ottoman Turks. The figure is a typical Greek Pontian guerilla. -------------------------- Bryce, Poser, Photoshop.
