Description
A small tactical airfield in the eastern part of the Kursk Oblast late Spring 1943.
Late arriving LA5FN fighters buzz the field prior to landing.
Notes: The La5FN was an improvement of the
LaG(G) series of fighters. With the LA5 series The Russians had (with the Yak series) sircraft capapble of combatting the Me109 and FW190 german fighters. The LA5FN was part of the continuing modifications of the LA5 fighter. Made in Blocks of 1,000 the Lavochkin fighters continued through out the rest of the war and beyond.
The symbol on the cowling indicates this is a guards unit. Guards units were special units designated by accomplishments and usually recieved the latest equipment to reflect their status.
The funny looking pickup is a Hucks starter used to start Russian aircraft which until the later part of the war had no internal starters. Usually the aircraft were hand spun to start but this starter unit made it easier (especially in winter).
Planes and Hucks unit done in Wings by Osper Enterprises Air Craft Division.
Figures: James and Simon from Poser (these guys get around).
Clothing done in Wings.
Other trucks are from the WEB
Cammo Netting by Beyond VR (I think) if it is...Thanks If not thanks anyway for your freebies.
The rest is Vue 7I.
Additional note: as per my last and best (best??) computer melt down. I could not confirm the original makers of the trucks and netting.
Comments, thoughts either way always welcome
