Description

What you are looking at in this final picture of a five picture series is a technical representation of the Mech I have been featuring all week – a VOTOMS. This particular model is the “ATM-09-ST Scopedog full equipment type” but there are many others. I have been a Japanese animation fan or anime as it is more commonly referred for more than twenty years. For all that time it has been the Mecha (Mechanical) series that have always interested me the most. Some may call them giant robots, but what do you call a machine that looks like a traditional robot but has a human pilot inside. Most of the stories I watch are pretty complex and nothing like you would expect from the animation studios of Walt Disney or Warner Brother’s. For me it’s always been the complex stories that have attracted me to the anime, that and the Mecha designs. One of the earliest series I ever got to watch was called Armored Trooper VOTOMS and it featured designs which gave the impression that one day they would put in an appearance in the real world. Whilst the story line for AT VOTOMS was complex, the idea for the story was simplistic in itself – “what would a soldier do, who has only ever known war, once the war was over”. If you use the link below you find out a lot more about the simplistic story, but complex world of Armored Trooper VOTOMS. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armored_Trooper_Votoms And for those of you who want to be really confused try checking out Super Dimensional Fortress Macross or Macross as it’s more commonly known, or Robotech if you live in America. This is a huge series which took as its simplistic premise “let music soothe the savage beast”. Enjoy.

What to do when the war is over? well first you make sure you take this home with you, who'd stop you.... I remember Channel 4 ran an Anime season a few years back, late night, serious Animation, it's an insult to call them cartoons. Like this technical layout, and thanks for the links, I will certainly follow them. Have a good weekend ......

When the war is ovr, you recycle as a stunt pilot with an old battered Scop', or you become a cargo handler with Ripley-style loaders ^-^ or if you can't take a docker's life, you still can enlist in your local Patrol Labor Unit... Seriously, very nice image, insisting on what I always liked on VOTOMS : its realistic look and feel. Btw, I also like Heavy Gear or Gear Krieg from Dream Pod 9 ^-^
