Description

I liked this image for a number of reasons, one of which is it is pictured here in an open doorway of Hangar B of the Tillamook Air Museum in Oregon. The others are hopefully more artistic:) ................................................ ...Unusual MiG-17 privately owned by Richard and Linda Melhoff of Newberg, Oregon. The Melhoffs completely restored this aircraft between November 1999 and November 2002 and report, "...the airframe is completely annodized inside and out. No corrosion!" ...the plane was originally built in Poland in 1961 and has some combat history. The Polish authorities would not say where it was deployed, but three years of log book entries (1965-1968) were removed. ...as an aside, the US Air Force encountered a large number of MiG-17s over North Vietnam during the late 1960s. MiG-17s flown by pilots of different nationalities acquitted themselves very well. Bill "Nesting" thumb_2205143.jpg

What a cool-looking plane! Don't ever let anyone tell you you can't get a good shot of a plane with backlighting. This is outstanding!!

Outstanding shot, Bill. I like how you've taken the standard "look at this airplane" shot and turned it into a work of art using lighting and a spectacular POV. Almost feel like I'm flying wingman for this guy.

The 'Terror' of Mig Alley, for a short while! Great capture Bill, you really got something with the door behind, great reflection and contrast in the darker areas...very nice!

Interesting shot! I love the opened door letting in the outside light, and particularly the gleam on the wing. As always, your historical information is fascinating and informative: I never knew that MiGs flew in Vietnam. And I had several relatives who served during the war. Of course they were in the Army and Marines. You learn something new every day. Wonderful work, Bill.

Excellent shot ... Great lighting and a much under-rated aircraft! Often wondered who flew all those MiG's over Vietnam... Couldn't imagine the Vietcong having a huge airforce them selves... And...where did the money for the aircraft come from? Mmmmmmmm? Just like the Luftwaffe in Spain, the Polish and Russians did the same there I imagine... Great shot.. Rob

Fine shadow and light view of this Mig 17! It had to have been in Vietnam.
