Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

For those of us who know nothing about Chicago other than yours and Chips... It's a cool shot of red.

Interesting what you captured here! Thanks for the info, Corey :)

Red's always a good color to have. I might be just a little prejudiced, since it IS my favorite color! I drove thru the "little Saigon" of Orange Country just yesterday. It's north east of here and truly a different world.

What a cool picture: mostly because I know this particular view and have never thought to photograph it! Funny how that works: something is so much a part of your world (or at least a part of the world you commute through on the way to work, the bookstore, or simply "somewhere else." You never think to actually look at it (probably because you're on the el, reading a book, or trying not to hear Levitra telling Chevette about her third or fourth baby-daddy, while another guy ambles through the train car selling "loose squares" and assorted socks, ID wallets, or bootleg DVDs of the latest [not yet released on DVD] movies.) Anyway, in such situations, you never really get to see something as average as a sign, and so you miss the colors, especially if they're neighborhood-significant colors with dingy city-crud around the corners in a way that recalls the brave new world of Chicago's past. Oh yeah, and when all else fails, go red (or purple, or chartreuse-and-mauve-with-gold-highlights,) that never fails. I like this, and I see by the reflection, that you were headed south. This is a great shot.

Great reflection shot! I see you ... or your camera and various parts of you, at least. I wonder about argyle, and whether that pattern is displayed anywhere in the neighborhood. It seems odd that a Scottish pattern name is the basis for a public transportation stop in Chicago. I wonder about a lot of things. Maybe I should just shut up and wonder silently. (SUCH a fascinating question, though!)

Stunning capture my friend. God Bless.

Oooo, like the reflections. Had to stare at this for a bit to ensure I knew what I was seeing. Anything that makes an observer stop and stare...usually makes for a good picture. And this is one for sure:)
