Greetings to the people of Earth.
I've always wanted to say that! Now that I did, I can now get on with other things.
I'm a science fiction writer (not famous yet) born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I've lived in the Czech Republic and Germany, and though I am currently back in Chicago, much of my heart remains in the Czech Republic. Maybe it's the beer. Or the bread. I hope to live in Moscow soon, as a big portion of my heart already resides there. I've had an interest in science fiction since an early age and will probably maintain that interest for the rest of my life. I love SF, and anything else that embraces the spirit of discovery...or anything that chafes against the arbitrary boundaries of "conformity."Â
I discovered Renderosity a couple of years back when I was browsing the internet, looking for cool images to spark my imagination during a period of writer's block. It wasn't a serious block, but I needed something to make me ask the sorts of questions that I always ask before settling down to craft a short story or novella. Since that time, I've written quite a lot and I've begun to post photographs and other visual works that I created here...partially because I love the Renderosity community in general, and partially because the images and text-snippets that I have contributed here are something of an ongoing journal. I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to journal keeping, and so posting picures of particular significance actually helps me to remember the things I want to remembe, without having to eat into my fiction writing time by writing non fiction. Well, at least that's my excuse and I am sticking with it.
I entered into the field of photography totally by accident; I'd always been interested in capturing small stories, but it wasn't until my journey to Europe that I began to consciously seek out tableaus that imply stories in progress. As a result of that, my writing is growing in unexpected directions, and I look forward to becoming more and more active here, and in other artistic/publishing fields.
For those looking at my gallery, enjoy it and feel free to leave comments and sitemail! Good day to all!

That is too cool, my friend. I love the patterns! Now I might have seen that, and I might have even taken 30 or so photographs of it from different angles and at different distances until you'd scream at me to quit. But never in a million years would I have thought about a projected, flawed, flat world. Dang. (And you've even got the wrinkles spaced just right against the building across the street. EXCELLENT stuff!)

hmmm, i remember laundromats; weird things always happened there. i never saw strange things on windows, but i once filled a front loader with too much soap and came back to find the machines barfing suds. I left quickly, came back later to sneak my clothes out. I felt like I was in an episode of "I Love Lucy"!! Anyway, I digress, as I do often when I see your fotos. This is way cool and of course your story rocks!!!

I think the fact that we 'accept things unquestioningly' may be our ultimate downfall. Never forget the plight of the Eloi in 802701 AD! Weena was a babe though so I guess it's all going to be OK!

"an interaction between a dreamer and the surface upon which that dream is projected." Now there's a thought! Brilliant... Even without the words this is a fascinating image.

AW! That is so well seen and captured. I did wonder what it could be. A really cool shot. :-)

So we've de-laminated from the soil and it's the dirty truth. Having farmed for many years it's beginning to make sense.

Wow, I hope that you'll explore this concept more fully; what a story it would make! As a storylet it's compelling and haunting...and your image is brilliant, what a great find and capture!
flavia49
fantastic prose and image1!

Really wonderful photo and concept, makes you think!

For a minute, I thought that was something you added in Gimp..... Really neat the way you've captured this, and created a story around it. Awesome work, Chip!

Very cool image! The first thing it made me think of was the patterns of the spidery black lesions of the blight in the DS9 program "The Quickening". It looked like an infection, creeping onto reality. Excellent capture and fascinating story.

Great capture. Perhaps my laundromat should use this laminate to make things interesting.

An interesting shot indeed. Looks fantastic!

That is a cool effect but would drive me crazy (a short drive I admit) if I lived there. Dana

How do we know we're here? How do I know this website even exists? How do I know that one of my legs is bigger than the other and both of my feet are too long? Interesting ruminations. Love the pic. It makes me think ominously of "The Blob", and nasty gelatinous creatures oozing up my leg. Funny how I've been to this laundry many times and never noticed this before. Nice work.
