Description
These guys are laying paving stones in the old part of Lisbon, in the back streets near the seafront. As we passed them, they saw us admiring their work, spotted us as tourists, and suggested (via jokey gestures) that we take a picture. I guess they were proud of their craft, which most just walk on & take for granted, so I figure it deserves to be shown to the world. They work fast; we went by an hour or so later and they'd finished that bit and moved to the other side of the street.

I have seen men doing this in Portugal too and I think it's fascinating and quite a skilled job. You have captured the essence well.

Worth recording. This is a skilled craft and one that is not popular in modern application. I have tried it in some limited areas and it is very difficult to make it look right and give a flat surface to. Excellent shot of this amazing talent.

Thanks for the comments. I love the idea of handcrafted sidewalks, and Portugal has some amazing examples. Cascais has plazas done in this fashion with wavy black & white patterning you daren't walk across in drink if you want to stay upright!

Glad you stopped to both admire and share your shots of these craftsmen. : )
