Description
This is an F4U-4 Corsair, modeled from scratch in Max, mapped and textured in Max, rendered in Vue. This version of the corsair had four 20mm guns instead of the usual 6 .50 cals. The Corsair, especially the later versions with the four bladed paddle prop, could out-fly anything Japan could put in the air. At the end of the war, it's kill-to-death ratio was almost 11 to 1! That's the best KDR of ANY aircraft in the war. This weekend let's remember all those that gave thier lives in the service of our country, and if you know a service member, please thank them for thier service. Happy Memorial Day.

Beautiful Modeling of a Superb aircraft. Lt. Col. Bill Rankin flew the Corsair in Korea as it's useful life went well beyond WWII. Exceptional Work. P.S. 'Combat' was one of my favorite shows growing up.

Thanx for your compliment. Quite right, the Marines were just beginning to use them in the close air support role with a pilot observer on the ground. In Korea the corsair excelled in this role, fitted with a variety of loadouts including eight 3.75in rockets and napalm. Thanx again, I'll be uploading an F-86 Sabre soon. You can see more of my stuff at www.rons3d.com. Have a great weekend, Ron

Great model, neat aircraft. A friend of mine is restoring an FG-1D to flying condition. It's the 5th from the last FG-1D built and its major airframe components are actually stenciled F2G. The Hellcat actually put up some awesome stats, too: responsible for 75% of all US Navy aerial kills and an overall 19 to 1 kill ratio ... so don't forget it - lol.
