Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

Stunning capture my friend.

You can't blame Chip for thinking that after reading the second 'act'? What a great marquee!

Beautiful night scene! Well captured Corey :)

Great shot and narrative.

I remember that! When you read the names of both acts together, it does sound rather naughty. I like this shot, especially since I happen to like twilight shots. Night and day shots are incredibly nice, but it's fun to get the color of twilight and meet the challenge of fading light. The colors are superb and this is one superb shot. Fantastic reflections. And now, I'm going to think of something other than the rather terrifying potential encapsulated in: Crystal Castles' Teengirl Fantasy....somethings are just best left un-thought, lest they return to haunt you in nightmares with the sort of cheesy music best left in a Russ Meyer film.

And here I thought it was going to be a foto of, well, whoever IS the latest teen girl fantasy!! In my day, it would've been Ricky Nelson, Frankie Avalon or gasp, my personal, all time favorite, Fabian!! Shriek--- I LOVED him!! He's still around and I'd still go for him if I could---lol!!

fantastic shot and story!!

I had to know. Crystal Castles is a band, and Teen Girl Fantasy is the opening act, also a band. Not very exciting when compared to the previously considered options, but I can sleep better knowing the truth. Can it be any more odd than the band called Death Cab for Cutie? (A local band here ... I understand they made it big.) Aside from all that, I love the picture! I agree with Chip about the twilight, but the reflections in the van in front of you totally rock!

How fascinating..I'm so glad Tara did some research. Did Borders go bust?..we lost ours too.

Wonderful shot mate. I love Borders too, but they are going belly up all over the place here too. I must admit I spend 99.9% of my time in them reading for free instead of spending money!

Good morning Corey. First of all...like the "blue hour" image. That is a great time of the day for fascinating effects. At least that's what I've read recently in a photography magazine...now I need to get out and experiment with camera in hand. Secondly, you generate some of the most interesting comments...have enjoyed every one of them!

Great shot - I love the Ice Castles reference as I was a big Robbie Benson fan but having watched it again as a middle aged woman, I can say that teen girl fantasy is right - not much there as an adult....Love the porn reference ha! The way you captured the light in this shot is really nice

Nothing like energized noble gases in a tube to give true fire to a theatre. I conveys a sense of magic, even if it is just a porno film. Possibly it's because of the unnatural purity (ironic for a porno film) of the colours generated from the tubes. Beautiful capture and just the right time of night too, with the overcast clouds turning that deep blue and violet of dust. Nicely contrasts the colours of the neon light.

Beautifully captured and great background information!
