My latest effort-in-the-works...
First appearing in More Fun Comics #73 (November 1941), "The Green Arrow" aka millionaire playboy Oliver "Ollie" Queen, was created by writer Mort Weisinger and artist George Papp. In May of 1961 (Justice League of America #4), Green Arrow became the first new recruit to the Justice League after the seven founding members (in a bit of irony, Arrow's co-creator, Mort Weisinger, who was at the time editor of the Superman titles at DC, along with Batman line editor Jack Schiff, didn't want the company's two biggest guns to join the League, for fear overexposure would dilute sales of their native titles; Justice League editor Julius Schwartz struck a deal with Weisinger and Schiff, agreeing to keep Superman and Batman sidelined in the more mundane stories, and to not feature them on the covers).
I was going for a look that's kind of a cross between George Papp's original Golden Age design and Neal Adams' Silver/Bronze Age makeover, and I think I got pretty near to the picture I had in my head. Essentially, it's Adams from the waist up and Papp from the waist down, with more or less the Adams color scheme. Also, though his chin is obscured in this pose, Ollie is just starting to grow in his mustache and beard... he hasn't got the full Van Dyke yet, but there's definitely a little bit of goatee action going on.
