Description
Will May was a Chagford peat cutter who worked the peat around Gidleigh Common in the 1780's. Will May's House (SX 639868) is a small ruin (6.5 * 4.5 ft) that sheltered him while he worked in this lonely but beautiful place. There is a well preserved fireplace inside, an intact entrance and a nearby slab that may have been the door lintel.
it was a very Hard walk out to here on Saturday as it's all little gorse bushes &Bracken, i managed to pick up six sheep tics,i must have sweet blood as they never go on Bern.

Great shot and story Pat. Watch out for those tics they can cause Limes disease!

Yucky ticks! I hope you carry a tick twister! What an evocative shot this is.

Same size as my garden shed!...certainly wouldn't be comfortable as an abode. I suppose it was only for foul weather shelter as he would be out cutting peat from sun up to sundown. Sheep tics....uuuuck, the pesky side of hill walking, 'durleybeachbum' suggests a tic twister...think I'd prefer a flame thrower :-)

Cool capture, Pat never had the 'joy' as it were to experience a sheep tick and if I have any say in it I won't ever.

I am surprised this much remains of Will May's house...excellent image and bit of history. As for tics...I've lived with them for my entire life until moving to Washington state a year ago. I am overjoyed to be free of them!
