Description

I'm continuing to monitor the progress of the construction behind the Triangle shopping center in Malmö, Sweden. See previous posts ( http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=2208486&user_id=5273&np&np ). This is a 150 degree panorama made from two photos, looking west to north. When I passed by on my way to work at 8:30 this morning, the men had just started pouring concrete in the corner at the bottom of the photo. When I left work at 18:30, they were pouring the corner near the crane in the background. That's a LOT of concrete, and poured FAST, thanks to pumping it through thick hoses suspended from special trucks with cranes for the hoses and pumps for the concrete. When I returned with my camera, the cement trucks and trucks pumping the concrete through the thick hoses were gone and replaced with flattening and smoothing equipment. I've never seen the type of smoothing machine before which is visible in the center of the photo - it looks like a strange red hovering chair. A worker at the left is maneuvering another smooting machine. The holes in the concrete are ventilation shafts. The concrete seems to be a fast setting type since it already supports the weight of the workers without their shoes leaving any marks. The concrete being smoothed is a thin, wet surfacing layer devoid of crushed stones. Photos taken at 19:30, June 10, 2011. Enjoy!

Great capture. MIke Rowe, of Dirty Jobs, got to operate one of the smoothers - really quite funny to watch (from a distance)

Great detail at the zoom. Just looked up concrete smoothing machines...didn't know such machines existed. Makes great sense for the huge new pours that they do these days.

Smoothing machines! I can remember when we dragged 2x4s over a fresh pour while on our hands and knees. Super shot and wonderful details in zoom mode. Dana
