Description

R Butterys Cerrox mjw file. Tweaked bpmac materials, atmoshere created using Dmytry Lavrov's volumetric plug-in. Experimented with wP ambient by distance mjw in this a bit. Very little as I wanted the shadows. Postwork - contrast sharpening. Comments and critiques are welcomed Full Size View Recommeneded

I like the background, especially the top left. Although, I think the shadows and the terrain on the front have some kind of washed out look.

Very nice work Danny & kudos for mentioning those that assistsed in the creation of this work. The lighting is what makes this a very strong piece. It looks like a strong light is just thrown onto a terrain...which of course a sun is :) The Volumetrics works really well...however I also tend to agree with Slav that the lower portion of the image is lost in shadow/negative light. I hope you have the opportunity to have another shot at it from a differing view. BTW: How long to render & at what settings?!

Thks Woz the render took about 8 hrs - 1600 X 700 w AA 5, Full Shadows, Reflextions enabled and Geo Detail was 4.8. I probably will take another shot at this. Thks

Thanks for trying my FG, D-san! One has to be careful when mixing lighting systems. As a general rule, it's probably best to 'bypass' the native Mojo ambient when using the Volumetrics plug. I always install the two nodes, 'Create Node > Volumetrics > Vol.Ambient/Vol.Shadows' when using the Volumetrics plug. Use 'Vol.Shadows' to get the 'Sunlight Color' data (see below). Even though Dmytry's rather sparse User notes say, "just don't use it", he did provide a general ambient feature that is functionally -identical to the MJW ambient. And, of course, you can use it. The 'ambienceByDistance' FG is cool - but the critical FG is the 'ambient/sunlightColorBalance' FG: ambient color and sunlight color, when added together, should equal '1' (Thus spake Doc Mojo).
