Description

Another in the series based on colors. Reading "Color: A Natural History of the Palette" by Victoria Finlay which inspired this series. The renders may feature a color prominently, but should reflect the mood that the color represents. Black is the color of death, secrecy, and the mysterious. In Ancient Egyptian cosmology, black was the color of purity; primarily because as a color, it is the most likely to remain unadulterated. I'm quite fond of blackness in many of its forms, but that's probably because of that whole sense of mystery: there's always more than meets the eye, and most of it remains hidden in shadow, and may actually require shadow in order to exist: what is a secret, after all, but a thing that dwells in darkness? Even if it's a good secret, blackness is intrinsic to its existence. What I like about this image is the way in which the blackness is dominant here, but not overpowering. It's a fine balance and the dynamic character is quite engaging. Whether he's Death incarnate, or just an over exuberant farmer, using that scythe on some really overgrown wheat, he's compelling. This is marvelous! I'm glad I discovered your gallery.
