Description

Ah, the refreshing aura of corrosion and oxidation. Not too much response on yesterday's Snoozin' in the Park posting, so maybe this will do the trick. Captured 6/13/11 - so it's hot off the presses - early in the AM, within walking distance of my hackneyed haven. Better detail viewed via ZOOM. My jaw literally dropped when I spotted this old timer attached to a deteriorating gate, which triggered an instant rush of adrenaline because I've been hunting for ages for a padlock and latch to rival those of Andrea with her King Henry the Eighth era antiques that she posts. Before I went bonkers on taking pictures, I hesitated and looked around for any signs of suspicious neighbors peering at me, because anyone in my paranoid area caught taking fotos of children, pets, vehicles, benches and/or padlocks is instantly challenged, questioned, arrested, and then bludgeoned with a truncheon before being incarcerated for who knows how long. All this without an attorney or being tried in a court of law. Can we say, guilty until proven innocent? Anyway, when I found the coast was clear I snapped off a couple of shots, looking over a fence that separated me from the padlock by about seven feet, so this is kind of a mini long distance shot. I then departed the scene post haste, uncontrollably weeping with joy at this windfall. Since this type object is a rarity for me, I went Full Monty on the photograph and milked it as far as allowed with various filters, with the original on top. Cheerio, thankx for popping in, and for any and all complimentary comments.

Terrific job on this collage...the last two are my faves. Not so sure the key will even open this rusty lock.

Wow, I wasn't aware that they even allowed anything this rusty to exist in beautiful Southern California, Harry! And I suppose the suspicion is that you'd somehow take the picture of the lock and fabricate a magic key that will open it and allow you to loot and pillage the surely-expensive swag they have hidden behind it. You'd think they would have a fancier lock if it's such great stuff they're protecting! I'm glad you escaped unimpeded...great capture and variations!

isn't it a pity that people are so paranoid when you simply take a picture of whatever? Glad you got away with this one; I know how fun it is when you find something you've been wanting to capture and you finally get that opportunity! You've applied such a nice variety of filters on this special lock .. hard to decide which one I like best!

And if I am not mistaken, it doesn't really appear to be locking anything...that's the way it should be. This poor old lock has retired some years ago. Like your variations...without bias toward any one in particular:)

Of course this is right up Andrea's alley ... well, not literally - but it's also fascinating to see with the use of all those different filters, which I am also practising as of lately, fun, fun, fun. love your sense of humour and commentary, BB PS ~I would also like to thank you, for your kind Birthday greetings, via Andrea 'durleybeachbum' ~

Wonderful and funny story. I'm so glad you took proper caution in this to avoid the dangerous elements around. Great postwork! I like number two the best. The metal seems to be dissolving before our eyes. Next would be number five. It looks radioactive.
