Description

A view down State Street in my home town of Salem, Oregon. Three main landmarks are visible...the Capital building, the First Methodist Church, and the facade of the historic Elsinore Theater (far right center). I really lucked out this night because lights were on in the church. The full moon was coming up behind the clouds, lighting them, and it looks like the church spire is trying to pierce the clouds. My bank has a 24x36 beautifully framed print of this scene behind the tellers in the lobby, along with several of my other scenes of Salem. There are a couple of other businesses in Salem with smaller prints of this hanging, also. Thank you so very much for looking, and for all of your comments.

love photos taken in the blue hour, as it makes a good contrast to the many times yellow/orange street lights. and congratulations to be the (or one of the) town-photographer(s). I see some huge empty house walls ..... no graffiti artists around ?

I love twilight photography, or "blue hour" photography as geckogr calls it. There's so much challenge to this sort of photography, and such a payoff as this picture shows. I know it's a photograph, but it reminds me of a painting as well and I love the way it hangs in suspension between those two visual media. That sky is amazing and the wonderful sodium vapor glow of the streetlights just adds an extra zing. This is really fantastic, and I can see why prints of this would grace various interiors. This is super.
