Tonight someone will win The Stanley Cup. It is an ice hockey club trophy, awarded annually to the National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs champion after the conclusion of the Stanley Cup Finals. It has been referred to as The Cup, Lord Stanley's Cup and The Holy Grail. The Stanley Cup is surrounded by numerous legends and traditions, the oldest of which is the celebratory drinking of champagne out of the cup by the winning team. Unlike the trophies awarded by the other three major professional sports leagues of North America, a new Stanley Cup is not made each year; Cup winners keep it until a new champion is crowned. It is unusual among trophies, in that it has the names of all of the winning players, coaches, management, and club staff engraved on its chalice. The original bowl was made of silver and has a dimension of 7.28 inches (18.5 cm) in height and 11.42 inches (29 cm) in diameter. The Hockey Hall of Fame is housed in an old bank. The original Stanley Cup is kept in that bank vault in Toronto, Ontario. You are looking at the original Stanley cup, on the top shelf, in the bank vault. The object on the lower shelf is the original bands engraved with the players and management, of the early winners. That is Lord Stanley of Preston etched to the left of the trophies. Great looking capture. Boston won, :( To be truthful they deserved to win, they outplayed Vancouver in several aspects of the game. but it was still a great series and season for Vancouver. Just wait till next year :)

Cool foto of the storied trophy, plus its very interesting history, Dana. The Boston Bruins won, and the poor loser Vancouver fans went ballistic, destroying everything they could lay their hands on for a total of four hours.

I had just read yesterday the original was in Toronto. Great seeing this!! I was born just outside of Boston and this is just so awesome. We saw the 3 Superbowl trophies by the Pats up close and it just wasn't the same. This is after all a Hockey town or as they say the Hub of Hockey. And this Stanley Cup was carried and drunk out of by many great players in the past. Thanks for sharing!
