Description

In many ways Shiva one of several 'Lords of the Fey' found in mythologies throughout the world: "...Men and serpents, musician-angels (gandharva), celestial-humans (kinnara), the gods, their king Indra, and their teacher Brihaspati are ever seen worshiping him. The spirits of darkness, the antigods (asura), the daimons (daitya) [aka genii], the genii (yaksa) [aka fairies], evil-spirits (bhuta), ghosts (preta), evil-elves (pishaca), magicians (vetala) [aka 'vampires'], mermaids (dakini), witches (shakini), scorpions, serpents, and even tigers are serving him." (Giridhara Sharma Canturvedi, "Shiva mahima," Kalyana, Shiva anka, p.57.) Thus Shiva rules over both the spirits of light and those of darkness." ["Hindu Polytheism" by Sri Alain Danielou, published by the Bollingen foundation, New York, N.Y. Distributed by Pantheon Books, A Division of Random House, Inc., New York, N.Y.] He is heavily associated with the Moon and the Red Rohini star Aldabaran in Taurus. The Red Rohini is a form of the Goddess, Shiva's consort Parvati the 'Daughter of the Mountain'. Shiva is also associated with the modern constellations of Perseus (as the seated yogin), Orion and Canis Major (as the wandering mendicant Bhikshatana with his dog). Shiva wandered as Bhik-shatana as penance for cutting off one of the god Brahma's five heads because Brahma 'married his own daughter'. This was considered 'bramanicide' by the Bramins, who seemingly were willing to overlook the thing that made Shiva angry at Brahma in the first place. I could say a lot more about Great Time (Mahakala) but there isn't room here. Zoom for details. Mixed Medium: Poser figure, fractals and photo collage with digital painting and filters. Your comments are appreciated and I hope you're having a fantastic week! R.

Your work has a unique and original style. Grand job with the celestial effects, looking very much like a nebula, the birthplaces of the universe. Superb symbolic work with the clocks of the ages.
