Description
Evening all :o)
Whilst I was sitting out in the garden the other morning I kept hearing a scraping noise .I could`nt find where it was coming from for ages and took no notice of the Wasp sat there on the trellis. It was there for quite some time so I thought I would try and get a pic .Well I was surprised to find that the scraping noise was actually coming from the wasp and the white stuff was some kind of pulp from the scraping .Something I have never heard or seen before and yet another revelation in nature I`ve learnt since moving into this new house :o)..
Thanks for look and take care .
Mick

What a great capture! It's hard to believe you can actually hear them scraping and chewing, but it's true. Those little critters are loud!

Very nice shot Mick! Although the wasp is on the cusp of the focus (DOF), I think it works well in this shot!! Very nice indeed. Martin

Oh, these are such busy little ladies...always harvesting wood, making pulp, and adding room-addition after room-addition onto their wonderfully improvisational, but somehow exquisitely organized hives! I love these wasps, and I hope to discover a few hives this year. We've had a wet spring and so many of the best nesting places are a bit too damp for them. This is a superb shot.
