May 29th 1453 is the day Constantinople fell! Some parts of the outer wall were destroyed. Great and famous churches, palaces, homes, and people of Constantinople were put to disgrace. In this image I express nostalgia for days of glory of Byzantium, civilization of great culture and wisdom. You can see many churches in the middle, St Sophia is somewhere there and you can see the sea below the walls. For ten centuries this was the city of Constantine - Roma Nova Constantinopolitana, as they call it in 4th century AD. When the city fell in 1453, one of the great masters of western polyphony Guillaume Duffay made a composition in honor of the brave city and its inhabitants (Lamentatio Sancta Matris Ecclesia Constantinopolitana) and whole western world lamented the city by singing this song. Smashing history indeed.

For me ,Boris ,this work is the better of all yours paintings. This is a real creation with an intellectual approach and "expressionnist" colors . A true work very intelligent! I should have wanted to be the author!

Congratulations on using the June theme so well! This is gorgeous and so moody. I was wondering when I would see something posted that used the monthly theme. Outstanding.

The picture is made all the more interesting for the impetus behind it--the color choice is absolutely perfect and the merging lines swell and ebb with life and emotion--well done!
