Description

Oh dear, time for a classic car collage again. Captured 5/16/10, around noon, at the beautiful 16th Annual Muckenthaler Motor Car Festival, held at the beautiful Muckenthaler Cultural Center in beautiful Fullerton, California. Much better viewed via ZOOM. This 1929 341 Cadillac convertible coupe sits on a 140-inch wheelbase, weighed 4,909 pounds and was priced at $3,595. Options available at the time included 6 wire wheels, fender wells with 2 spares priced at $250, a heater was listed at $32 and tire mirrors were $30. This was the first Cadillac to feature a Synchromesh transmission that eliminated the practice of 'double-clutching' while shifting gears. Other first-time features included security-plate safety glass used in all windows and the windshield, and electric windshield wipers. The car is powered by a V-8, L-head engine, with 341 cubic inch displacement and an advertised 90 plus horsepower. Internal shoes were introduced on the Duplex-Mechanical brakes. Oooh, the height of luxury for the times. What a beautiful vehicle, I particularly like the leather buckled straps holding the spare tire; seems like a really neat accessory. And a rumble seat? I'd love this car! Wonderful photos and collage, Harry!

A Fantastic collection of photos showing off a classic car indeed! Well put together into another wonderful collage, thanks Harry.. Love it! So sorry for my very scattered comments.. I now have over 2,000 e-bots in my in tray (I get rid of none).. I DO plan to attack these and get some made up for when I return from Maine and delivering Rosy back safely!! This trip, both itself and the arranging, has taken some effort and planning.. Thus everyone's comments have been far and few.. Sorry once again.. It was very important to both Rosy and myself... No doubt you will find out son ;-) Take care.. Will comment again ASAP!!!!! Rob

Must have taken a bit of time to get those spare wheel/tire mounted mirrors adjusted:) A V8 engine must have been the cat's meow at the time! Beautiful collage...just right for any of your classic car series.

Great images and fascinating car. I love all the shots from different angles. I see so many interesting details. All those headlights, big ones and little ones. I've always liked the way the hood is raised in these old cars. It looks so flimsy to see it bend in the middle like that. Two spare tires, literally belted in place with side mirrors on them. I wonder if mirrors ever got left on the roadside after someone changed a tire. What are the little squares on the rear passenger fender? The handles on the storage areas look so nonautomotive to modern eyes. Excellent captures! I like the reflection of the woman's face in the second one. Very interesting info too.

as I go back & forth on RR, I couldn't let another day pass without doing one of your car captures...and while there are lots of fine ones to choose from, I chose this because of its dreamy quality. There's a certain soft-edged feeling to these which fit the car beautifully & give a nice contrast to its angular & etched form. In the top shot, the lights look like beacons---not lit, but ready. And you've suitably softened the background so that the car 'stars' in the shot (yet we still feel everyone's presence, in, I assume, an adoring crowd). It's a beautiful front-capture. Then you go through one of your typical journeys, from front angle, side and then back angle, where, as in all your car shots, the car feels like a living being. Especially beautiful---to the novice at least---are those side-wheels: And what a great closeup, to show us one of them strapped to the car with leather straps. (And I love the inclined sideboard, cutting the wheel off in such a classy manner.) Any aesthetic & convenience reasons aside, your multiple views let us see the many riches of these cars---in a way we could never see in a single view. Finally, the engine seems like big shiny contraption, the kind of engine you'd see at a science fair where the designer did everything to make it look dazzling & beautiful. (I'm not implying these aren't masterful engines; it's just that they have a dazzle & sheen that I haven't seen on modern car engines in the show room.) And so you make a complete journey from front to back, outside to inside. You know, you present these cars in a way that makes us feel you're serving them to us on a gold platter. These are very generous montages, and they make us want to say "thank you". (And btw, Harry: Don't worry about the length of your comments! I write long because I wrote about art for years, and I do that with my favorite artists. But 1, length has nothing to do with engagement, and 2, you write some of the best & most engaged comments on the site. They're still some of the most earnest & committed comments here, so don't worry that they're not as long as 'mine'. They're longer than most, and always substantial: I haven't a complaint in the world...)
