"When one thinks of Delialah beni'Ashura al'Syresh, it is impossible to separate the sight of her from that of her manservant and guardian, the towering Daniel Blunt. The two were almost inseparable. I would have thought them romantically entwined, did the thought not disturb me so. As it was, the truth was perhaps even more disturbing. For even though she treated him as an equal, fretted over him like a younger brother, and would have died to save him, Daniel was little more than a slave to the power of the Church."

"As I learned much later, Sister Delialah was raised by the church from an early age. She spent most of her life on top of Mount St Martek, at the Shrine of the Silver Flame. She began traveling forth at the age of 18, as is custom, and learned to be a missionary teacher, spreading the word of Isis as well as the knowledge of mathematics and science to Symballans and infidels alike. It was in the south, crossing the Pouarr lands with her Reverend Mother, that she encountered a band of ogres. The priestesses and acolytes were assaulted for fear of their magic, and soon the field was bloody on both sides. By happenstance, the last ones standing were Delialah, her Reverend Mother, the Ogre chieftain, and a young half-Ogre. To save them, the Reverend Mother cast a mighty spell on the half-Ogre, permanently charming him to serve and protect the younger priestess. Then the Chieftain was upon her and slew her. But before she died, she managed to cause him grievous wounds. Delialah and the half-Ogre finished him off. The Reverend Mother's body was taken back across the border, carried on the half-Ogre's back, but Isis had already called her spirit to Heliopolis and she could not be raised."

"It was soon after her return that I met them both. By chance, our paths crossed. I was with Nightfire at the time, and her burning hatred for ogres led her into conflict with the towering half-Ogre, Daniel. It would not be the last time the two came to blows over trifling matters. At length, though, they managed to become solid allies and more than once did I see them back to back in battle, trusting one another with their lives."
