Description
Bern & John at OP21,[observation post.] This was the first time we had walked up to there, we always drove up , but the Dartmoor Preservation put a stop to people driving up , which has spoiled it for allot of people,

Now, I only see 2 backpacks...that suggests yours is still on your back...so the boys ran ahead and tucked in, and you got this pic as you caught up....hope they left you a sandwich :-) Ok I know they wouldn't do that really, but that is one serious lunchbox Berns got there (err, that sounds a bit Linford Christy....I meant the butty box honest)....thank you Pat..

A classic pose for serious hill walkers, I do understand, but a shame for those not so fit as the boys are!

It will be good for you legs and the preservation of the hill side!

A well deserved break for the hikers. Looks like an old military observation post...left over from WWII? I find stone work like this amazing. I can place rocks on top of each other like this and they fall over as soon as I turn around:)

Yeah I agree with limiting cars to these things, but I know just what you mean about spoiling it for some people. I've often thought that the people who have access to special parking spots etc at shops because of age or disability should also be able to still drive in. It would still stop most of the people driving, but allow those who have gotten on in age etc to still enjoy the experience. A friend of mine has Cerebral Palsy but gets out and does EVERYTHING. He goes skiing with a modified chair, and has even scuba dived! His chair 'and van' are his legs for getting out an enjoying the world.

Perhaps they could compromise and allow driving once a week or something? It is unfair to those who can no longer walk there but might actually have paid the taxes that created the view in the first place. Somewhat similar to Edmonton's Provincial Museum, now called the Royal Alberta Museum, that was free to all and all paid for it through taxes. Now it has become a way to make money from tourists, and the high entrance fees have ended my frequent visits. Haven't been there for years; cannot afford it! Now that I know how this works, I will NOT be among the people who donate artifacts (and I do have some). Those who donated expected their donations to be seen freely by all.

Quiet place in the pure nature, love it.
