I am 58 years young, live in Johannesburg, South Africa and I'm a true product of my continent. I love the bush, the animals, sunshine, sunsets - oh well, anything to do with nature. I am unmarried and have three sons - 37, 33 and 30 respectively and three granddaugters aged 12, 6 and 4 respectively and obviously the light of my life! Photography has always been a passion and I have loved it since I can remember. I was still using a SLR camera and only switched to digital only in late 2007! My other passion is travel and I have been lucky enough to have travelled fairly widely. There are however still many, many places I would love to visit "one day." I am truly an amateur photographer and do it merely as a hobby. So please be gentle when you comment on my work. :-) Thank you Piet, my dear friend, for convincing me to place my work on Renderosity. You owe me one! Hugs, Carin xx

LOL! Around here we just carry a pencil behind our ear but this is truely creative. A marvelous picture. Great catch. I don't suppose it would be possible for the giraffe to scratch himself behing the ear.

Excellent capture, Carin I see them on his neck and head

The little birds are delightful! I'm sure this guy is happy to have them along. What a wonderful capture!

Well, I looked and looked and squinted, but I could detect no oxpecker passengers atop the giraffes neck. Excellent image otherwise, Carin! As long as it puts the giraffe at ease, that's what counts.

Wonderful shot of a very stately animal, and I did not see the birds at first! Thanks for telling us about them!

The first thing I thought when I saw this was: "Ah, the neck-duel champion of 2011," and then I just reeled my thoughts back on track and found the passengers. I have to say that Chicago is really lacking when it comes to intriguing wildlife. Being an urban environment and all, nothing "wild" wants to live here, except for blood-sucking parasitic flies with harpoon mouths, mosquitoes, rats, more rats, a few rats, and the occasional wandering (very lost) coyote; we have nothing like oxpeckers. What a name!!! I imagined them going around pecking oxen, while way up in Denmark, a bunch of crustaceans were going around biting benches. Ah, what a world we live in. It's truly marvelous when you stop and think about it. And this is a truly marvelous shot. The passengers are adorable, and the giraffe is so wonderfully indifferent to them. I'm glad you posted this!
