Description

The title of this image is a bit misleading as Ba’al Zebûb (modernized as Beelzebub) translates to “Lord of Flies.” The blood-sucking monstrosity here is female and, therefore, a Lady…or at least a trollop, but I couldn’t figure out how to say “Trollop of Flies” in the Englished version of ancient Hebrew. I even consulted a Bible (not my own, mind you) and there were no references to any ancient pronunciations of that word. I cross-checked, attempting to find the word, floozie as well. I wasn’t very lucky, and so I put the Bible back where I’d gotten it from, flinched at the idea of coming down with a case of Testamental Itch, opened a can of Arizona brand iced tea (“Southern Style Sweet Tea”) and debated whether or not to even keep this image. After 24 hours of ruminations, I decided…what the frak? Just keep the image. It’s all that remains of that fly, after all. I don’t normally kill insects, but this breed of fly (black fly?) has been known to carry all sorts of nasty-surprise diseases, and anything with the potential to infect me with something that prevents travel to Russia must die. In short, this is a picture of a now-dead fly…a now-dead fly with a belly full of dog-blood…a now-dead fly that has gained an odd form of digital immortality. I blame that black harpoon jutting out from the bottom of her chin for that one. I’ve never seen a black-fly feeding needle up close, and I was amazed at the fact that it’s a hinged device, its tip angled like the metal point of a hospital-grade hypodermic needle. (The angle, and the hole, are both invisible here as the angle is…well…angled away from the camera.) The presence of a biological hypodermic needle (with an elbow) was enough to save this photo, if not the fly herself. I have at least one other shot of this…um…creature, and it shows more of her skin-piercing harpoon (and it’s odd, knobby elbow,) but I’m not sure if I really want to immortalize her any more than I already have. There are still many black flies buzzing around the back yard (and mosquitoes too) and so I’m really not in the mood to immortalize anything whose sole purpose in life is to make mammals itch. As always, thank you for viewing, cringing, reading, and commenting, and I hope you’re all on the verge of a great weekend.

Hmm, perhaps you should try "harlot"--it seems to be a more biblical sort of term for ladies of the evening (or anytime someone wants a "happy ending"). At any rate, I'm glad to hear the world is short one fly with sharp pointy bits that likes to feed on mammals. I itch just being in the vicinity! And your shot is wonderful, giving us good reason to avoid these flying predators!

She looks to be well fed, I'm glad she's an ex-fly now. Nicely captured. The close up multiplies the creep factor of these pesky critters.

Dog Blood?? she sucked blood out of a poor dog??? I am so glad all that's left of the Blood Sucking Harlot is a photo. An excellent photo though. Complete with a belly full of blood. Nasty thing. Grrrrr. You should've gone in the Old Testament .. most excellent descriptive stuff there. I think Harlot appeared in both old and new testaments. Oh!! I know .. Babylon the Great Mother of Harlots .. giggles, don't these evil things lay thousands of eggs?? Wouldn't that make her the Great Mother of Harlots ?? ROFL!! Some place in Revelations ... On the other hand .. I love Ba’al Zebûb! It fits her to a T .. even she is a she.

Oh God, I'm getting visions of Jeff Goldbloom! This is just kinda creepy! Actually, this is VERY creepy! Creepy, corpulent, gross, and all around nasty. Very nicely captured, however, it all her grotty glory. I imagine smashing her was quite satisfying.

They can just stay the heck away from me, too. Biting flies, mosquitoes, and your beloved spiders LOVE me! I can't go outside without spraying myself with OFF first, or I'll come back with every inch of my body covered in welts and bites. They make being out in nice weather a miserable experience. I looked it up, and it's true that biting bugs (mosquitoes in particular) really ARE attracted to certain people over others. Bill and I can be out all day, I'll come home with a dozen bites, and if he got one it's amazing. It hardly seems fair. I hate bug spray! Death to all biting bugs!

Hehehe - Hold that pose.......SPLAT! I'm pretty deadly with a large rubber band - that's the fate many a buzzing pest has met when they invade my territory.... As soon as they land, it's twang...splat! Excellent macro, Chip!

Great picture of a disgusting insect, especially engorged as that one is. Reminds me of another Sandman reference, from the adventure where he goes to Hell to recover his helmet from a demon and, thus, must deal with the triumvirate of Lucipher-Beelzebub-Astaroth. Beelzebub, very fittingly, chooses to manifest himself as a huge fly.
