I am an environmental scientist. A large part of my career has been dedicated to scientific research into the structure of ecosystems and factors that affect them. Quite early on, it became apparent that certain mathematical iterative principles formed geometries that coincided exactly with those found in natural ecosystems. And by ecosystems, I do not mean just plants and animals. The same principles also apply to quantum physics, geology, meteorology and on up to the formation of galaxies. These relationships were championed most publicly by the brilliant mathematician Benoît Mandelbrot, the founder of fractal geometry.
To my mind, the structure of natural ecosystems through application of these iterative processes revealed not only the genius and subtlety of nature but also its incomparable beauty. Â

This is stunning in its beauty Stan. The likeness to the pinnicles on the shoreline at Nauru is amazing. I had not heard of this island so googled it after reading your text. The site I saw had several pictures of these pinnacles sticking up and they indeed look just like your fractal. It sounds like it might be a wonderful place for a quiet holiday away from the hustle and bustle of a large tourist area. Once again Stan your delightful artwork is a source of pleasure and you again have helped open a new area of interest in myself and I'm sure in others too.

Very cool fractaling, excellent. Way back in 86/87 while working a contract in Madagascar a couple of us were contemplating a Tour of the Kiribati Island chain, it looked so cool on the, pre Google Earth, PC Globe software. We opted out of Kiribati for the more popular and touristy Seychelles, a mistake now I look back on things. The Seychelles were great but I think Kiribati with all it's Islands would have been fun taking an Outrigger from Island to Island but after 4 months in the Bush we wanted to PARTY. Peace

I really love the way you use fractal and/or chaotic phenomena as subjects of your renders in a scientifically correct way. The image itself is very well done, as usual, with the smooth glassy look of the pinnacles and the rougher texture of the reef in the foreground. In a way, you remind me some artists than choose one particular medium and/or material (say, bottlecaps) and then proceed to do just about everything they want using said material, even things that ought not to be possible to do with such restrictions (e.g., The Pietá, Mona Lisa, Cistine Chapel...). Bravo!

What wonderful pinnacles you have created here with a super glassy look to them which would look fantastic at sunset time. The clouds and the sea look super too. It is a very beautiful fractal scene.

I've never heard of Nauru. You make it sound wonderful, just like your image.
