Description

I have just dropped a friend at the airport for a trip to Cairns. Flights have been cancelled for a while now due to the Chilean dust cloud, but finally it was all systems go. This was the plane to Cairns. It struck me as ironic that the mother of all storms was approaching the airport just as the dust cloud finally left! I had to shoot this through a window and a very dirty one at that. Luckily the dirt was on the inside, so I spent 10 minutes polishing the part of glass I was going to point my lens through. This caused no end of bemusement to a group of Japanese tourists who were watching every move I made! Please view zoomed.

Sorry I am late on this one Andrew:) Sometimes I look at modern airliners and go ho hum...but all your window polishing was "spot on"...the detail, the light, the moody sky...all go together to make this a first rate image.

I rather like the idea of maybe capturing the Japanese tourists showing their bemusement at your window-cleaning efforts. They paid off. I happen to be one of those weird guys who likes passenger jets. There's just something about them. I think it's those pointy noses with radar stuff crammed inside of them, and the fact that they have a space shuttle kind of a look to them, sort of...if you really stretch it. Or maybe it's just that they're always so whompin' big, even the little ones, and it's just fun to imagine how fast they have to go and how much work they have to do just to fly somewhere. And well, on top of all of that, I really like this nose-to-the-window view, kinda like the plane is sniffing the airport? Or something like that. And that looks like a Chicago sky from a few days back...I was wondering were all those clouds went!

That is a nasty looking sky back there and an amazing shot of the plane. The the airport offer you a window washing job - you do fine work. :>) Dana
