Description

A work in progress. Modelled in Shade 10.5. The Dornier 24 flying boat was distinguished in many ways- but perhaps most extraordinarily for the polarised world of the mid-twentieth century, this aircraft operated in both Allied and Axis air forces during WW2- fortunately not in the same place. There is a heap of reference material for Luftwaffe Do24Ks but if I understand it right, the Do24 was originally designed to meet a Dutch order for flying boats to service the far-off Netherlands East Indies (which is now Indonesia). Hence, Dutch Dornier 24s, many licence-built in Holland, were in the thick of it during the early months of 1942, when European possessions in South-East Asia fell like nine-pins during the Japanese advance. The RAAF inherited the half a dozen Dutch Do24Ks that eventually escaped intact to Australia. Maintaining them must have been a chore- by that stage the factory in Holland was painting black crosses on everything. Warranty repairs were out of the question! Thanks for viewing and comments
