This is what I do to shoot fireworks. You need a long exposure to get the whole flow of the firework. Set the ISO to 100. Set your shutter speed to BULB. As long as you hold down the shutter button the shutter will stay open. Set your aperture to F8. Now...if you don't want wiggly lines in your fireworks you either have to brace your camera against something, use a tripod OR brace your arms on the armrests of your chair or lie back and brace it against your forehead. Make sure you set your focus to manual or your camera will waste a lot of time looking for something to focus on and you'll never get the shot. When the first one goes off, focus and zoom your lens to encompass that area because most of the fireworks will probably be in the same general area of the sky. Check to see what you got and either extend the time you hold the shutter open or shorten it if you're overexposing. I usually try for three bursts and then close the shutter. If you zoom in you will see there is a slight wobble to the lines. That is because I didn't use a tripod and shutter release cord. It is the best way to keep things stable.
