Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

What a shot! I love your postwork too. I love all of the aspects of Americana that exist in this shot; the first thing I noticed is that there's Bingo on Thursday nights. Thursday must be the only night the Bingo is allowed, because no matter what and no matter where, it's on Thursday night. It kinda makes sense though...Thursday is just close enough to the weekend to be fun, but it's not yet the weekend! Post hump-day or something. And I love the thrift shop as well...I could easily spend too much time in one of those. In fact, I did just today and I bought something that looks expensive...for $1. Just a black, sleek, sleeveless wholly-artificial fabric kind of futuristic tank top with a not-so-obnoxious logo on it. This is a fun shot. I could just wander into it! 1852 huh? I'd drink in a spot like that, and put my ear to the walls and listen to see if they have any interesting stories to tell, and if they're from 1852, then you know they have at least ONE story concerning floozies. Those are always fun.

Neat angles and lines...and the oldest continuously operating drinking joint in California! Wonder what they did during prohibition? lol.

Great composition! I can't quite read the sign ... at first I thought they had Authentic Mexicans, but that isn't right. Mexico's? Very odd. Hope you remember, 'cause it's driving me a little bonkers trying to figure it out! LOL!

Nice shot and info. I can understand the concentration on the thrift store in this image. I'm with Tara, 'Authentic Mexican' what?

An excellent slice of life; small town thrift shops are the best!!

Very nice work! I've spent a lot of time in towns like this in the Sierra Nevada foothills. They're all so quaint and frozen in time ( mostly - there are a sprinkling of Jamba Juice franchises, Walmarts and Verizon stores. This is a great shot.

Main Street USA and it really looks and sounds like it. My wife would drive out there just for the thrift shop. :>) Dana
