Description

This is the 9th page of my graphic novel. again, in order to show the urgency of the action, I'm continuing with a series of tight smaller images instead of the previous landscape ones. Hopefully I succeeding in conveying the proper atmosphere, that will be your impression too. I'm having to revise all the previous pages, because I discovered that my render settings were incompatible for printing, if ever desired. I use Comic Life Deluxe for the actual composition of my novel. The Lighthouse Prop that I'm using here is my own creation. BACKGROUND SYNOPSIS: In the year 1838, the lovely Swiss governess, Esther Abrabanel, agrees to conceive and bear the child of an anonymous English landowner, in return for which he'll pay her £500. He's the scion of an ancient anglo-saxon royal house, and feels the need to produce an heir to his line. However, since his wife is consumptive, and after ten years of marriage has proved barren, he feels an ever-present desperation and frustration in the fulfillment of his destiny. Miss Abarbanel, is a secret crypto-jewess born to an illustrious line of scholars and sages, but who finds herself living in an alien society. She is also a fiercely loyal daughter, who is in desperate need to obtain a large sum of money in order to effect her father's release from debtor's prison, where he's incarcerated for another man's misdeeds. However, since she's of an independent and wayward nature, the very idea of contracting and surrendering to the yoke of a loveless marriage, just for its financial convenience and security is totally abhorrent. Thus their mutual needs brings them together. They meet for a week in a hotel on the coast of Normandy, during that time their relationship gradually meta-morphs from the cold the mechanics of commercial contract sex, to a mutual desire, and then to a deep and abiding love. However, in spite of this awakened feeling between them, they must part ways on their return to England, ostensibly never to see each other again. At the birth of their child (a daughter),she surrenders her as agreed to the midwife to hand over to the father. However, unlike as agreed, she can neither forget her child, nor the man that she bore it to. Seven years pass, when one day she arrives at a remote Sussex estate, to be the governess of a young girl. The father of the girl, Edwin Ironside (a lineal descendant of the great Edmund Ironside, king of Mercia), turns out to be the same anonymous landowner who met with her years before in the Normandy hotel, and the child Deborah is their daughter. So Esther has to be her own daughter's governess.
