Description

-------------- Tales of the Raptors – Tyanna

High atop the western ridge, still some two or three miles from the summit, a copse of trees stood alone. Getting closer, they could see that someone had built something there, a sanctuary of wooden planks and bamboo in the form of a tree house of almost Elven design. But who, or what, lived here?

As Muamud investigated carefully, he suddenly found a sword at his throat, a horrid serrated thing made of what seemed to be pure gold. His captor took him carefully and slowly, back out onto the balcony and held him there for the others to see. He knew that if his captor had wanted him dead, he would already be so. Delialah began to speak to the woman in various languages, but none managed to penetrate. She then dropped all pretense, and holding her hands out as she could, she cast a tongues spell, allowing her to finally breech the language barrier.

What she discovered was the woman’s language hadn’t been spoken in over two thousand years, for she was speaking the language of the old Tarkanian race, the original Tarkanians, before they were overrun and slaughtered. Here was one of them, plucked out of the ancient past by what power or magic, they could only guess. No doubt the temporal rifts and the planar anomalies that were rumored to pervade the Symballan Sea were true after all. Here was the first hard evidence they could find to prove those stories.

They learned she was Tyanna, a Weaponsmaster of the Tarkanians, daughter of a great smith, though history had lost his name as it had all other Tarkanians. She still carried her father’s sword, and the bracers he’d made for her, both powerfully magical, and made of sivitite and auritite. Somewhere off hunting was her Targee, a giant bird more closely related to the dinosaurs of Awalawa than modern falcons. She’d been marooned here on this poxy island for nearly a year now. She’d tried to escape several times, but always the storm that surrounded the island pushed her back. She knew much of the terrain and the beasts that lived here, as well as the location of ancient ruins of a race she did not recognize, with strange markings in a language she’d never seen.

Muamud instantly agreed to help her get off the island, if she would accompany them to rescue the Ship’s captain and one of his mates from the other giant bird they just saw fly over,… the giant, two-headed bird, that was.
