Description
These shots were taken yesterday at my garden pond.
The left hand shot shows what had crawled up out of the pond and on the right what emerged from it.
One a dragonfly nymph and the other the dragonfly itself but what type I do not know but I have no doubt that someone can tell me. Also the caterpillar is unknown to me but if feeds on the iris leaves.
Have a good week. Jeff.

Creatures from the Black Lagoon:) Well done Jeff... We have a bit of a bog in our backyard filled with Iris leaves...I'll keep my eye out for brothers and sisters of these critters.

Lucky you, Jeff! super shots. The larva is that of an Iris Sawfly. The make a nasty mess of the leaves, don't they?! That is one of the Hawkers, a bit difficult to say which till it's got full colour which takes several hours.

I can thank you now for the ID of an unknown insect that I posted early on at RR. Beautiful dragonfly and it looks like it is being framed by the bush it is resting on. Both wonderful shots Jeff. Dana
