Description

The juveniles are distinctive due to their 'threadfin' appearance of having trailing anal and dorsal fin filaments which recede with age. (See illustration below)

These filaments apparently help the fish to look dangerous, as it's predators mistake them for the stingers on a sea jelly. I shot this yesterday at the Melbourne Aquarium. Please zoom for a better look, and thanks for taking the time to visit my gallery. Andrew

Oh this is truly amazing. Nature comes of with some wacky-cool ideas and this ranks up there at the top of the list. Fish with...well...kinda sorta with...fin-extensions? Nice!
