Description

Photo taken from the same POV as yesterday's post. The Wallace Monument was completed in 1869 to the designs of architect John Thomas Rochead at a cost of £18,000, the monument is a 220 foot (67 meter) sandstone tower, built in the Victorian Gothic style. It stands on the Abbey Craig, a volcanic crag above Cambuskenneth Abbey, from which Wallace was said to have watched the gathering of the army of English king Edward I, just before the Battle of Stirling Bridge. Visitors can climb the 246 step spiral staircase to the viewing gallery inside the monument's crown, which provides expansive views of the Ochil Hills, the Forth Valley and Stirling Castle. Info from Wikipedia. Scanned from a 1995 photo. If I had todays camera - back then - I would tell you to zoom - but alas I did not. Thanks for stopping by my gallery, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

Sterling clarity and general photographic effects in this scanned pic, Dana. The structure looks out of place out there among all the rural countryside.

And to think all he had to do for it was to be drawn by a horse to his place of execution, and then hanged (almost to the point of death), emasculated, disembowelled, beheaded and quartered (chopped into four pieces). I think I'll stay a nobody!!!!

Thanyou for showing us this! Although I was so close when I was up in Scotland during the first year of my doomed marriage I never saw this. I actually love the softness of this,Dana, I think it gives a most romantic atmosphere to the scene
